Topic relevance. Science and technology development and market needs raise increasing requirements for the individual. Secondary education becomes the need not only for the human development, but also it is a possibility to continue education, gain speciality and ensure a position in labour market. The readiness of an adult for continuous education is one of the most important career expansion and saving condition. Only continuing learning can ensure his/her future in constantly changing knowledge society. Study object. The career motives of adult learners. Study hipothesis. It is assumed that learning at adult education centres is connected with career motives of learners. Study aim. To find out the career motives of learners that study at adult education centres. Study methodology. During the study of chosen problem lifelong learning strategy, humanist psychology, career planning theory were referred. Study methods. Scientific literature analysis, questionnaire survey, statistical data analysis applying statistical data set (SPSS version 13.0). Study was carried out at Kedainiai and Kaunas adult education centres. The study sample study was composed of 220 students: 105 employed and 115 unemployed. Study results revealed that learning at adult education centres is connected students’ with life plans, achievement of goals, future perspective. The main motives that stipulated the decision to continue studies at adult education centres were the wish to gain secondary education certificate and the intentions for further studies. |
