Abstract [eng] Nowadays there is a growing concern about motivation of career choice and vocational training of a physically disabled young person living and learning under conditions of constant change. There are not many works which research children’s (under 18) career choice motivation. Therefore, such situation defines the aim of this research. Study object: career choice motivation of a physically disabled child. The purpose of the study: to research the career choice motivation of physically disabled children. The methodology and methods of the research: the research is based on the ideas of modern humanism theory, the center of which incorporates a human being itself and his relationship with social environment. The following methods of research have been used, viz. scientific analysis of literature, survey of children. While conducting a quality research, content analysis and correlation have been used. The goals of the research: to describe psychological features of physically disabled children; to study the literature on vocational training of physically disabled children; to find out whether the knowledge about professions and career choice of physically disabled young people in different age groups is adequate; to examine whether physically disabled children are motivated while choosing the career they want; to make conclusions and recommendations for career guidance of physically disabled children. Hypothesis: in spite of the age, physically disabled children evaluate their abilities not adequately and are not motivated enough while choosing the profession they want. Research base and extension: The research was carried out in 2007-2008 at Kaunas and Šiauliai Special Education Centers. 134 respondents participated in the research. The research is not only new but important from both theoretical and practical The study has supported the hypothesis which was formulated at the very beginning. In spite of their age, physically disabled children evaluate their abilities inadequately and are not sufficiently motivated while choosing the profession they want.
