Abstract [eng] Dimension of intimacy in young people couple relationship This thesis is dedicated to exploration of couple relationships its transformation, and research on importance of intimacy in modern young people family partnership. This study is based on the quantitative research methodology and is a part of international research “Youth attitudes to family life in the EU member States” which is coordinated by Estonian Tartu University, Unit of Family and Welfare Studies. For discovering a conception of family partnership we study Vilnius University’s students’ attitude toward marriage, cohabitation and divorce; explore reasons of cohabitation, marriage ant its postponement; establish determinants of successful couple relationships, as well. For discovering an importance of intimacy’s dimension in family partnership, attitudes towards different cultural love ideals were studied; also values of various intimacies’ factors, such as emotional disclosure, sexuality, work on relationships, partners’ equality and autonomy, were explored. Following data of empirical research we made these basic conclusions: (1) VU students relate family partnership primarily with emotional union that is created for love; emotional and psychological factors have a greatest influence on this union. (2) Marriage does not manage all love relationships anymore. VU students relate marriage with confirmation of “tried” love relationship. (3) Marriage is loosing power of legitimation (except the need of child’s legitimated status), there is no need to legitimate partners’ sexual life anymore, and also cohabitation is tolerated. (4) The inner quality of couple relationship is main determinant of relationship’s term. (5) Conceptualizing marriage predominate needs of disclosure, inner dialog, friendship and mutuality. (6) Partner’s choice and value is subjective. All these marks confirm that Vilnius University’s students conceptualizing family partnerships refer to love ideal based on intimacy. However family partnership, based on intimacy, is not universal, it coexists with romantic love ideal which is confirmed by vague acceptance of importance of partners’ equality and autonomy.
