Abstract [eng] Fast computer technology growth has opened new possibilities for publishers of electronic journals and distributors of newspapers. Because the technology allows publishers to get information to readers quickly and efficiently, it is causing major changes to the publishing industry as we know it. Nearly every publishing and media company in the world has some type of website and provide a large amount of web-based content. This paper is concerned with situation and future prospects of the lithuanian electronic sports periodicals. Subject of the paper are web sites of the electronic periodicals. The aim is to describe present situation of the ecetronic sports periodicals and evaluate future prospects concerning economical, technological and social aspects. Following are the main tasks of the paper: determine the place of sports periodicals in the structure of the electronic sports publishing system of Lithuania; characterize publishers and readers; determine what kind of information and interactive services does sports periodicals provide; The paper is of interdisciplinary nature and covers spheres of science of communications, sociology and linguistics. The contents of the periodicals reveal the needs of the users and the requirements for the publishers to disseminate certain information. Lithuanian electronic sports publishers work for the Lithuanian users of the internet. The present choice of the electronic periodicals would not interest global users. In accordance to the results of the investigation there are 13 electronic sports periodicals in Lithuania, covering news and events of the mots popular sports in Lithuania such as basketball, football and motoring. These kind of news are also the most commented by the readers. Electronic sports periodicals in Lithuania announce main sporting events scores with expedition, but generally they lack original publishing material and news. All sports journals on-line are pretty much the same in terms of information variety. Major articles, sizeable stories and interviews with sportsmen mostly are reprints from daily newspapers. This kind of shortcoming blocks electronic periodicals publishers from making their web sites exclusive and predominant on the market. It is obvious that lithuanian sports periodicals publishers need more publicity. Two thirds of sports information web sites resign to indicate their owners, journalists and other staff members. This kind of anonymity raises a question if particular on-line sports journal is a reliable source of information. It is also a question of profesionalism As investigation revealed electronic sports periodicals in Lithuania are not profitable at the present time. The main interferences are: small and sensitive market, low publishers and readers budget, lack of professional on-line journalists. Publishers invest mainly to grow in experience, get popularity among internet users and hope for a better future. The growing number of users should enhance financial possibilities for the publishers and speed up the creation of eelectronic sports periodicals with different structures, on various subjects, and for numerous audiences. Further electronic sports periodicals and on-line journalism studies and development of electronic publishing and communications technology could benefit by this paper.
