Abstract [eng] This master's thesis analyses the implementation of economic and financial sanctions in Lithuania, adopted by the United Nations Security Council resolutions and the European Union legislation. The thesis examines international legislation and the doctrine of foreign scholars, in addition to focusing mainly on the legal regulation in Lithuania, which determines the mechanism of implementation of international economic and financial sanctions in Lithuania. The sanctions imposed by the United Nations and the European Union are compulsorily implemented in Lithuania on the basis that in the founding treaties of these organisations Lithuania assumed the obligation to implement the decisions of these international organisations in the context of the maintenance of world peace and security. The assessment and regulatory analysis in this thesis is carried out in the context of the emergence of the relevance of the application of sanctions in Lithuania in connection with the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Russia and Belarus. It should be noted that the regulation and obligation to implement international sanctions in Lithuania existed throughout the period of independence, but the relevance of this topic has only now emerged. The work examines the relevant legal regulation, which establishes the entities that have to comply with sanctions, the institutions that implement them, the procedure for the fulfilment of the obligations, the liability for violation of sanctions, as well as the new institutes of appointment of a temporary administrator and disposal of economic resources introduced in the Law on International Sanctions of 2022. Finally, the paper discusses and evaluates the case law and disputes arising from the legal framework implementing international economic and financial sanctions in Lithuania and assesses the problematic aspects of the interpretation of European Union acts and avoidance of sanctions.
