Abstract [eng] The theoretical analysis of the study enables stating that the insignificantly mentally handicapped young people because of lower social mentality, the stigmas of disability, the acceleration phenomenon typical for the youth, may cause the problems of adequate self-awareness and self-evaluation. Hypothesis: directly applied a certain art training model may effectively influence the self-awareness of mentally handicapped young people that appears in alternation of self-image and more adequate self-evaluation. The study was performed using the method of pedagogic experiment, the aim of which was to reveal the abilities of art therapy methods and the influence on the mentally handicapped people while forming their self-awareness. Using the results of literature analysis two models were created and performed. • The situational model of art training that insures the perspectives of self-awareness through self-realization. • The model of the study that presents the ability of self-image and self-evaluation analysis of results. This research was performed on randomly chosen six mentally handicapped teenagers. In the empirical part of the study the results of the test of self-image and self –evaluation of mentally handicapped teenagers are analyzed and individual analysis of certain cases revealed the most important conclusions of the research: 1. The research method of self-evaluation used in this study may significantly reveal the formation of self-evaluation and it changes only in the primary inadequate (too high or too low) self- evaluation cases. 2. According to self-evaluation measures tests and projective drawings the results demonstrate that the methods of art therapy positively influence the understanding of personality change of all members of the group and also self-awareness to the others. 3. The empirical data of research proves the hypothesis that directly applied art training methods can effectively influence the self-awareness of mentally handicapped young people that accurs in self-image change and more adequate self-evaluation.
