Abstract [eng] The subject of this research is the development possibilities of Lithuanian tourism settlement sector. The term of the research is 2 months. The research consists of two parts. The first part is the analysis of present tourism situation. The second part is the analysis of opinion survey. The sector of tourism settlement is analyzed at the level of districts. Lithuania is rich in natural and cultural resources for tourism development, such as geographical position, mild climate, beautiful nature, hospitable people, towns with antique architecture. Although these objects form good conditions for tourism development, they are not fully used. Tourism development in Lithuania is restricted by such factors as the change of seasons, small variety of leisure activities, poorly developed settlement services, low qualification of employees working in tourism sector. The number of places in Lithuanian settlement institutions for 1000 habitants (3,94 places) is six times less then EU average (25 places). Therefore, settlement sector in Lithuania has a large development potential. After the research has been made, it turned out that the kinds of settlement services are not being analyzed in all districts. Only three kinds of settlement services out of 12 - hotels, guest houses and rest-houses - are found in all districts. Evaluating development possibilities in individual districts, it is indicated that the general tourism situation in Lithuanian districts is either good or satisfying. On the basis of research results, Lithuania lacks for three-star countryside tourism premises (4,04 points), three-star holiday camps (3,93 points), hostels and conference centers (3,82 and 3,83 points respectively). Moreover, the need of children summer camps is also noticeable. There are enough hotels and motels in Lithuania, however, according to the classification criterion, two-star and three-star hotels and three-star motels have the potential to be developed. One of the greatest disadvantages of Lithuanian tourism settlement sector is the absence of the register of all tourism settlement services. This problem determines the distortion of information about tourism settlement services. The creation of the register of companies, providing tourism settlement services would help to analyze tourism settlement sector in a more effective way. The scope if this work (not including the list of literature, the list of abbreviations and appendixes) is 64 pages. The work consists of three sections and 8 subsections. The work has 4 tables and 41 pictures.
