Translation of Title Teenagers’ Attitude Towards Physical Activity as a Health Value.

Abstract [eng] The theoretical analysis of the concept and problem of physical activity and health, the importance of physical activity and the teenagers’ attitude towards physical activity has been performed. The hypotheses have been formulated: 1) it is presumed that teenagers’ physical activity is not sufficient; 2) boys and junior teenagers are more physically active. By the method of questionnaire survey the research has been performed, the aim of which is to identify the teenagers’ attitude towards physical activity and health. Statistical data analysis has been performed. Two hundred and forty 5-8 form teenagers from Aukštabalis, Gegužiai, Salduvė mainstream schools of Šiauliai town participated in the research. In the empirical part the teenagers’ attitude towards their health, physical activity during leisure time has been analyzed, the teenagers’ attitude towards physical education classes has been analyzed in various aspects. The research has revealed that the majority of teenagers evaluate their health as very good and good but have various psychosomatic complaints. Teenagers’ physical activity is not sufficient. In their way of life passive leisure is predominant: spending time with friends, watching TV, computer games. Boys and junior teenagers are more physically active. The main form of teenagers’ physical activity is physical education class. The majority of teenagers perceive the purpose of physical education class, that it strengthens health and trains various muscle groups and physical features, however, almost half of teenagers express negative attitude towards physical education classes. The teenagers’ interest in physical education classes will be mostly encouraged if kinds of sports could be freely chosen, if there were more sportive games. Girls would like more track-and-field athletics, gymnastics exercises and aerobics. Knowledge about the usefulness of physical activity, healthy way of life is not so important. The main motive that encourages the teenagers to attend physical education classes is a desire to strengthen their health. Boys attend physical education classes in order to have good physical form, to be strong and persevering. In girls’ opinion sport improves body appearance, corrects posture. The main reason that hinders the teenagers from attending physical education classes is the lack of sports inventory. Girls more accentuate quick tiredness, physical faintness, unwillingness to perform physical activity, big physical load in the class. The research has proved the hypotheses. Although the teenagers perceive the importance of physical activity, they spend less and less time on purposive physical activity. Boys and younger teenagers are more physically active.
