Abstract [eng] The Master’s thesis analyses the continuity of social-emotional learning at home for preschool-age children with special educational needs. The research problem: the successful education of children is not limited to formal educational institutions. It is crucial to ensure the continuity of social and emotional development of pre-school children with special educational needs at home and to involve parents in the educational process in a pre-school educational establishment. However, it is noted that involving parents in their children’s education becomes a challenge for every pre-school teacher. The research object: the continuity of social and emotional development of pre-school children with special educational needs at home. The aim of the research: to reveal the continuity of social and emotional education at home for pre-school children with special educational needs. The research objectives: 1. To analyse the concept and structure of social and emotional competences and education; to highlight the peculiarities of the development and education of social and emotional skills of pre-school children with special educational needs by the method of theoretical analysis. 2. To reveal the combination of social and emotional development in the family and in the pre-school institution through an analysis of content of interviews of pre-school teachers and parents. 3. To identify what recommendations given by pre-school teachers parents use in the family to develop social and emotional competences of their children with special educational needs. 4. To highlight the opinions of parents and pre-school teachers on the continuity of social and emotional education in the family, based on the data of interviews with parents and pre-school teachers. The research methods: theoretical analysis, semi-structured interviews, content analysis. The research sample: The participants were parents of six pre-school children with special educational needs and six pre-school teachers. The research was carried out in November 2023 in pre-school educational institutions in Pasvalys. Key findings of the empirical research: Social and emotional education is inseparable from the pre-school teacher’s cooperation with the parents of children with special educational needs. The research found that by developing social and emotional skills at home, children begin to better understand and name their own and others’ emotions, and find appropriate ways to solve problems.
