What social services are provided to this group of service recipients based on the model of social services provided by Lithuania and Ukraine? What is the parenting skills development model in Lithuania and Ukraine? The object of the research is the subjective experience of persons with intellectual disabilities, parenting skills, and the context of opinions of social workers. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were formulated: 1) based on the analysis of scientific literature, to conceptualize the parenting skills of persons with intellectual disabilities in raising children in the social contexts of Lithuania and Ukraine; 2) reveal the experience of parenting skills of persons with intellectual disabilities; 3) to identify the experiences of social workers in developing parenting skills for parents with intellectual disabilities; 4) to present the subjective experience of parenting skills of parents with mental disabilities who participated in parenting skills development programs. The research was conducted using the following methods: qualitative research method, theoretical analysis, semi-structured interviews, content analysis. 3 social workers (working with families) and 2 social workers (case managers) participated in the study. The study also included 5 parents with intellectual disabilities who participated in parenting skills training programs. Qualitative research method, semi-structured interviews with social workers (working with families) to reveal their experiences in developing parenting skills for parents with intellectual disabilities. The analysis of the results of the conducted qualitative research revealed that parents with intellectual disabilities have few parenting skills, for this reason consistent and complex services are provided to this group of service recipients, which can improve the parenting of these individuals. Various professionals are involved in the family support process. Also, successful results can only be achieved when there is a visible motivation of parents to change and discover new methods of how to raise their children. It has been revealed that parents with intellectual disabilities often face various difficulties related to inappropriate parenting of their children. Instilling inappropriate behavior patterns and values in children can harm their future life, parenting skills development programs are chosen to solve this problem as an opportunity to overcome all difficulties related to raising children and instilling parenting skills. Specialists providing services to persons with intellectual disabilities and raising children are faced with the main problem - non-individualized parenting skills development programs, as a result of which the work of specialists is complicated, and the results are not always successful. |
