Abstract [eng] The relevance of the topic of the master's thesis is based on the care of persons with disabilities in families that experience difficulties in the care process. This is relevant not only in Lithuania, but also in other countries, especially those that are currently experiencing economic and social changes. Families caring for a person with a disability need intensive support, resources and knowledge. A social worker is a person who helps individuals to solve problems that arise when faced with social challenges. The social worker identifies the needs, seeks to know and promote the resources and opportunities of the guardians, so that they can construct effective solutions and achieve their goals. Difficulties arising in families caring for a person with a disability are usually complex, so the attention and help of various institutions is necessary. It is important for the social worker to identify the need for social services in the disabled person's family in order to ensure the availability of social services. The purpose of this work is to reveal the possibilities of assistance in the families of legal guardians who look after a person with a disability. During the qualitative research (semi-structured interview) selected participants were social workers from the towns of Pasvalys and Biržai, providing day and short-term social care services. Also, during the qualitative research (semi-structured interview), guardians who have a court decision to guardian a disabled person were selected as participants. The results of the empirical study revealed that the provision of assistance to the guardian is individual, it is necessary to assess the capabilities and needs of each person to provide assistance. The provision of social services to disabled persons and their guardians in Lithuania and Ukraine has similarities and differences, including the nature of services, legal basis, and availability. However, differences in funding sources and availability of services affect the quality of services. Caring for a disabled person in the family presents many challenges and disadvantages, including adaptation in society. These challenges require an urgent solution and development in social services to better respond to unique needs. The provision of social services to persons with disabilities and their guardians is very important, challenges are faced due to limited service availability, lack of adaptation and meeting health care needs. In solving these challenges, it is necessary to individualize services, increase the number of specialists and the availability of information.
