The latest information technologies and their application in the educational process are an important tool in the education of today's students. The aim of the Master's thesis is to analyse the possibilities of application of Geographical Information Systems and to give examples of application. Geographic information systems are an excellent teaching and learning tool, which allows students not only in geography but also in other social studies classes to solve real geographical problems, to create various interactive maps based on social, historical, geographical or even economic grounds, thus developing students' critical thinking, problem-solving skills and encouraging cooperation with peers. The thesis consists of 4 parts. The introduction describes the aim, objectives, research object and methods of the master thesis. The first part of the thesis analyses the concept and importance of GIS in the educational context. The second part describes geographical information systems in Lithuanian and foreign educational institutions. The third part of the thesis describes the ArcGIS computer program and its possibilities in the educational process. The fourth part presents the possibilities and examples of application of geographical information systems in geography and history lessons. Various methods were used in the preparation of the master's thesis, such as analysis of scientific literature, analysis of documents and textbooks, descriptive method. The thesis consists of 56 pages, 2 tables, 25 figures and 32 references. |
