Abstract [eng] This paper deals with peculiarities of protection of a legal person‘s reputation according to the legal acts of the Republic of Lithuania, case law of the Supreme Court of Lithuania and the European Court of Human Rights. First, concepts of reputation and business reputation of a legal person, as well as their differences are discussed, examples of case law are provided. The paper covers in detail the means of out-of-court protection of infringed rights – it is a mandatory stage in cases pertaining to this category. The work of press self-regulation institutions is also analysed. The issues related to the Ethics Commission of Journalists and Publishers and the Inspector of Journalist Ethics are discussed in most detail. During the process of protection of a legal person’s reputation, the court has to establish the totality of the following facts: a) the fact of dissemination of information; b) the fact that the disseminated information is related to the plaintiff; c) the fact that the disseminated information is defamatory to a legal person; d) the fact that the disseminated information is false. In order to discuss the analysed issue in more detail, the paper covers each of the aforementioned circumstances separately. The analysis of each of the circumstances is illustrated by the examples from the case law.
