Summary Media service providers: theoretical and practical aspects This master thesis analyzes the concept of citizen journalism. The aim of the work is to provide a functional definition of the media based on the values of the theory of social responsibility. The reasons that led to the success of citizen journalism are analyzed. The disadvantages and advantages of citizen journalism are also presented. The work takes the position that in determining whether an entity is classified as a mass media, its contribution to the public interest is important, therefore, a brief overview of the concept of public interest and considerations of how journalists can determine whether information in the public interest is being published. The author also analyzes why mandatory regulation would not be appropriate for citizen journalists. In addition, the work analyzes the practice of foreign countries and recommendations for regulating citizen journalism. This master's thesis also analyzes the incentives that could encourage citizen journalists to join regulation. With the help of brief overviews of different regulatory models, the paper distinguishes the best features from all models and proposes a new regulatory model. |
