Abstract [eng] |
Maternity social insurance is one of the social guarantees provided to parents. International legislation enshrines the right to paid maternity, paternity and childcare leave. Motherhood is one of the social risks and one of the reasons why motherhood is on the list of social risks is due to the financial difficulties that a parent might encounter after the birth of a child, which is the reason why maternity, paternity and childcare benefits are provided and paid to parents, in order to compensate for the lost salary and ensure an adequate standard of living. This master's thesis focuses on the development of the legal regulation of maternity, paternity and childcare benefits and the problems that have been encountered since the entry into force of the law of the Republic of Lithuania Law on Sickness and Maternity Social Insurance. After the entry into force of Directive 2019/1158 of the European Parliament and the Council on the balance between the professional and personal life of parents and caregivers, the Lithuanian national legislation regulating maternity social insurance had to change accordingly. In the master's thesis, special attention is paid to the development of the legal regulation of maternity, paternity and child care social insurance benefits, the procedure for payment of benefits, the duration and amount of payment of benefits. International and European Union legal acts in the aspect of payment of maternity social insurance benefits are discussed, as well as maternity social insurance benefits in other European Union countries. |
