Abstract [eng] Nowadays project management has been accepted as a project activities methodology in the whole world. Organizations can reach a high quality level, gain time and resources, understate risks and increase reliability of its product and services by using project management techniques and methods. The importance of project management is specifically important in software development projects. Without project management and its particular knowledge areas, such as quality management, the result of software development projects instead of benefit can cause significant direct and indirect costs or even fail. Many organizations wishing to improve their business activities and processes are investing a lot of money into software development or procurement. The software industry has been growing at an accelerated rate for the past decade (in 1996, annual revenues of information technology market estimated $120 billion, whereas in 2006 – €919 billion). In order to develop high quality software products, which can satisfy all users’ needs and requirements at the maximum, software development process should be taken into consideration, due to that quality occurs at project initiation and must be planned for within the project. Project quality management combines interdependent methods, techniques and technologies, and helps to achieve high quality software products. The recognition and growth of project management has changed meaningly during last fifty years. Project management became an independent scientific field. Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities. It covers nine knowledge areas, such as project quality management, which includes processes required to ensure satisfaction of customers needs and requirements. It is important for the organization to have a quality policy. The assurance of quality policy can be maintained by one of the quality assurance methods: ISO standards, Total quality management, Six sigma methodology. The aim of ISO quality management standards is to motivate quality thinking and to use best practices. Software quality is the totality of characteristics (functionality, reliability, usability, efficiency, maintainability and portability) of an entity that bears on its ability to satisfy and implement needs. There are a lot of models describing the whole software process like waterfall model, spiral model, prototyping models, etc. The assurance of software quality can be achieved with the help of international models and standards, like ISO 9000 standards, Capability Maturity Model for Software, Software process improvement system, etc. Regardless of which model or standard is used, the degree to which it is implemented varies from organization to organization and even from project to project.
