Abstract [eng] Glušauskaitė, G. (2023). The relationship between police officers’ psychopathic traits, alcohol consumption and attitude towards the use of force in police work. Vilnius: Vilnius University. 47 pp. The purpose of this work is to investigate connections between police officers’ psychopathic traits, alcohol consumption, and attitude towards the use of force in police work, since finding out which characteristics of officers tend to contribute to abuse of their position more often could complement and refine the selection process of officers. The study was conducted using the The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT; Saunders et al., 1993), the Comprehensive Assessment of Psychopathic Personality - Self-Report (CAPP-SR; Selbom & Cooke, 2020), attitude toward the use of force was assessed by answering questions prepared according to The Measurement of Police Integrity (Klockars et. al., 2000), which were about 3 situations with described use of force. 233 police officers participated in the study (126 men, 106 women, 1 did not wanted to answer). Officers age ranged from 20 to 61 years (M = 38,45; SD = 9,49). The obtained results revealed that the characteristics of psychopathy are expressed more in the sample of male officers, psychopathy predicts a favorable attitude towards the use of force, while officers’ riskier alcohol consumption is predicted by their young age, male gender, and psychopathy.
