The aim of the study was to assess the association of attachment relationship style and adverse childhood experiences with relapse risk in people with substance addiction. The study involved 104 individuals (65.1% male) from different rehabilitation facilities in Lithuania, age range from 18 to 75+ years, with the majority in the 36-45 age category (N = 29, 26.6%). The participants were alcohol users (56.0%) and other substances users (39.5%). Childhood Experiences Questionnaire, Experiences in Close Relationships – Relationship Structure Questionnaire (ECR – RS), Stimulant Relapse Risk (SRRS) and Alcohol Relapse Risk Scales (ARRS) were used as assessment measures, correlational research strategy was used. Hierarchical logistic regression analysis was used to examine predictors of relapse risk. The results indicated that relapse risk in alcohol – dependent and other substance – dependent groups was associated with different styles of attachment relationships. Adverse childhood experiences, such as greater emotional neglect, was associated with a higher risk of relapse in alcohol – dependent subjects. Currently experienced high stress was associated with and may predict relapse risk in substance dependent users.
