Abstract [eng] Film criticism is an integral part of culture, serving not only the cinema as a work of art and its creators, but also the viewer, helping him to expand the range of meanings and significances of a film and to increase the depth of the latter. Moreover, from the beginning of cinema to the present day, cinema has needed to grow and develop, and the reflection provided by film criticism has not lost its importance. The final Master's thesis analyzes the film reviews of director Wes Anderson's films published in The Guardian and The New York Times from 2001 to 2021. The aim of this thesis is to find out what are the prevailing features of the director's film reviews. The first chapter of the thesis presents an analysis of the scientific literature, which provides the theoretical basis for the study. The thesis explains the origins and cultural context of the review genre. It also examines the nuances, features, structure and frames of the concept of film criticism, as well as the most important developmental and cultural milestones in film. The main theoretical basis of the work is the levels of film criticism, interpretative approaches and the problems of film criticism. The research aims to clarify the prevailing characteristics of film reviews of director Wes Anderson's films, which is the most important task. It is also important to analyze how they differ or are similar in two different magazines, i.e. The Guardian and The New York Times. The study is based on qualitative content analysis. On the basis of the theoretical framework, a specific research model has been developed for the study of film reviews and for the realization of the objectives set. Film reviews encode written information. In addition to the structure and language used in the review and the frames used, a strong emphasis is placed on exploring interpretative approaches and levels of analysis. The analysis of the study shows that the psychoanalytical approach to film analysis is the most prevalent in the reviews analysed, focusing mainly on the analysis of characters and their actions. In addition, this method includes an examination of the context of the filmmaker's life and the archetypes present in the film. The reviews examined are also dominated by the symptomatic level of analysis, which concentrates on the external, more important details of the film. The analysis of the study also showed that a contextual interpretative approach was the most recurrent feature of the reviews analysed.
