Abstract [eng] Mother‘s encounter with social risk is an indicator of unsafe and threatening family environment for her child development as well as of mother‘s complicated internal state hindering her ability to take sufficient care of her child or successfully realize her maternal potential. Research shows that adverse childhood experiences may have impact not only on various physical and mental health disturbances, but also on risky maternal practices, deficiencies in maternity skills and various addictions. This research aims to find the peculiarities of maternal adverse childhood experiences related to maternal attachment and her ability to mentalize internal states of her child. All three constructs according to research are considered of great importance for child development especially in his / her early years. 40 mothers of pre-schoolers took part in this research: 20 of them had encounter with social risk and the remaining 20 did not have such experience at the time of research. The following instruments were used: Attachment style questionnaire (short form), Adverse childhood experiences questionnaire and Mind Mindedness Interview. Results showed significantly higher numbers of adverse childhood experiences, more insecure dismissing attachment, lower levels of trust and mind mindedness in the group of mothers at social risk compared to other mothers in the research. A direct effect of adverse childhood experiences was found towards the odds of encounter with social risk. This effect was partly mediated by trust, which proved to be a possible protective factor decreasing mother’s odds to experience social risk. Research results contribute to planning help interventions for mothers at social risk as well as their children.
