Abstract [eng] The Master thesis discusses the content of music lessons in the context of the expectations of upper secondary school pupils. Considering the complex and important stage of the person’s life – adolescence, it is very important to find a way to get the pupil interested and convey knowledge to him. This requires a competent teacher who knows how to communicate, listen and help the pupil to fall in love with the subject taught. The research object is the content of senior class music lessons in the context of adolescents’ expectations. The purpose of the research is to reveal the content of music lessons in the context of senior adolescents’ expectations. Research tasks: to define the theoretical principles of music education in the general education school; to present the psychosocial characteristics of the age group of older adolescents; to discuss the content of music lessons of upper secondary school pupils and the factors determining the quality of the lesson; to conduct a qualitative study aiming to reveal the content of music lessons in the context of adolescent expectations. During the empirical study, 7 informants from three gymnasiums in Klaipėda district were interviewed using a semi-structured interview method. Obtained conclusions: 1) Music education encompasses three essential areas: teaching, development and education. They are all important for the pupils’ educational process, creative expression and the learning outcomes of subjects. 2) Adolescence is a complex stage of the pupil’s life, which is influenced both by the perception, maturity of the adolescent himself and by the emotional and social contexts created by surrounding people. 3) The quality education process is also influenced by the microclimate in the educational institution and the appropriate learning environment, quality teaching tools that meet pupils’ needs. The quality music lesson is determined by the harmony of the teacher’s competencies, the environment, and pupils’ expectations. 4) After conducting the research, it was found that the currently relevant general education music curriculum was not favourably evaluated by senior pupils of gymnasiums. The identified fundamental problems are the lack of human and professional competencies of teachers, the lack of interest in relevant issues of music, the gap between the content of the lesson and pupil expectations. Many informants associate music with entertainment, relaxation, recreation, and good emotions. Music teachers need comprehensive education, qualification training that would help respond to pupil expectations, this way obtaining a positive result for all.
