Title of the thesis topic. Links between Auditory/Musical Experiences and the Physical, Psycho-emotional and Social Health of Visually Impaired People Justification for the research. In Lithuania, music therapy is not available for people with visual impairments or visual disabilities. This study and its findings may provide useful guidelines for the organisation of music therapy services for visually impaired people in Lithuania. Aim of the research. Research the role of sound and music in the physical, psychoemotional and social health of people with visual impairments. Subjects. Four women and two men participated in this study, including: 1 – Tiflopedagogue, 1 – typhlologicalspecialist, 2 – Blind and visually impaired music group leaders, 1 – Blind and visually impaired music employment organiser, 1 – Music ensemble leader and member. Research methodology. Research instrument: qualitative research method. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using thematic analysis according to Braun and Clarke (2006). Results. After the steps of thematic analysis, three themes with sub-themes assigned to them were obtained. 1. The importance of sounds: Sounds are my eyes 2. The importance of music: Making music is much more than just a pastime 3. Inclusive: Sounds and music are important for biopsychosocial health. Conclusions. Everyday sounds in everyday life become indispensable aids for visually impaired people in a wide range of environments and situations. Sounds provide visually impaired people with an increasing range of leisure activities. Participation in music groups or musical activities becomes a partial alternative to the rehabilitation process for these people. Individuals who encourage the acquisition of new skills. They also bring their musical knowledge and talents to bear in concert activities. Builds and maintains existing relationships and friendships. Sounds and music for the visually impaired at different points in their lives are an undeniable testimony to the fact that without them, life would not be so smooth and dignified for these individuals. In this context, further research into the development and practical application of music therapy as part of social rehabilitation packages for people with visual impairments will help to improve the quality of their daily lives even more effectively. |
