Summary Master's thesis by Rokas Bazys, supervised by prof. Boguslavas Gruževskis, Vilnius University, Faculty of Philosophy, Sociology Studies Program, 2023. Problem statement: The increasing use of technology in work and personal life, the changing relationship between companies and employees, growing skill requirements, and new employment trends in society pose a threat to the stability of the labor market. Thesis aim: to investigate the impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the Lithuanian labor market. Thesis objectives: 1. Present the development of industrial revolutions and discuss the characteristics of the labor market during different periods of industrial revolutions. 2. Identify the aspects of the Lithuanian labor market that have been affected the most by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. 3. Determine the working skills that will be required in the future and assess how contemporary Lithuanian business leaders perceive the growing influence of technology on jobs. 4. Examine how employees working in Lithuanian companies view the working conditions that emerged during the Fourth Industrial Revolution and compare the views of business leaders and their subordinates on new labor market trends. Thesis structure: The master's thesis consists of three main parts. The first part is theoretical (Chapters 1-3). It examines relevant literature and provides a comprehensive overview of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the conditions that have been emerging in the labor market. The second part is methodological (Chapter 4). It describes the research process and justifies the relevance of the study. The third part (Chapter 5) analyzes the results obtained from qualitative and quantitative research. The third part is followed by conclusions and recommendations. Conclusions: The research showed that according to company managers, the main aspects of the Lithuanian labor market that have been affected by the Fourth Industrial Revolution are: employee qualifications, social interactions in the labor market, employee creativity, work processes, forms of employment, employee turnover, and companies' attitudes towards state policies and social welfare. The skill set required by business leaders from a future employee includes a constant desire for self-improvement, the ability to adapt to rapidly changing work environment conditions, and the ability to maintain concentration and motivation while working in a hybrid work model. Companies operating in Lithuania notice the effects of increasing globalization and international competition. Business leaders are convinced that with the prevalence of automation in jobs, employees lose creativity. However, the majority of surveyed employees are not concerned about the growing automation and use of technology in their workspace. Keywords: Labor market, employment, unemployment, knowledge society, Fourth Industrial Revolution, technology, human capital. |
