One of the effective ways to change the current situation of the elderly in the aspects of occupation, social integration, self-realization, communality, reduction of psychosocial exclusion is to encourage the elderly to realize themselves as actively as possible, to take part in social activities. Research data revealed that the activities of the culture centre were multi-functional, encompassing leisure time activities, self-realization, art, musical educational and socio-cultural activities. The areas of musical art self-expression, initiated by the cultural centre, are wide and diverse. These are art, dances, songs, events and other diverse art activities of self-expression and self-fulfilment. Functioning of this institution provides an opportunity to initiate and organise amateur art groups, allows to fulfil oneself and create strategies favourable to the musical self-expression of the elderly. Playing music, formation of groups of like-minded people, participation in public activities can be used in the elderly people’s life as a therapeutic tool and as an effective method of occupation and social integration, which helps improve people’s social health and reduce social isolation. |
