Abstract [eng] Master's thesis examines the possibility of an alternative tourism development in Lithuania. The idea of an alternative tourism is becoming a very popular and at the same time it is appropriate to develop. In the glossary of Lithuanian tourism, alternative tourism is seen as a type of tourism, which aims to reduce the negative and increase the positive impact of tourism on the social, cultural and physical environment. The most vividly functioning types are: rural tourism, eco-tourism, cultural tourism, social tourism, health (curative) tourism and urban tourism. Alternative tourism is not very popular in Lithuania, the most widely used only in rural tourism and only slightly palpable health (namely cosmetic) tourism manifestations. Other alternative types of tourism remains forgotten and unused. Consequently the master's thesis is the examination of the essence of tourism, forms, categories and types that to explore alternative tourism development in Lithuania. The concept of alternative tourism, types and classification are important to contribute to the development of new targeted tourist market. The object - alternative tourism, labor thing - the development of alternative tourism. Master's thesis is consistently implemented by solving the following tasks: to explore the essence of tourism, forms and categories, to examine the type of tourism and alternative tourism place in the system of tourism, to reveal the direction of development of alternative tourism and to explore it in Lithuania. The tasks used to solve theoretical and practical analysis, carried out in order to analyze the alternative tourism position in forms and categories of tourism, alternative tourism theoretical concepts, development, reveal the direction of development of alternative tourism in Lithuania. There are two hypotheses: the Lithuanian population is not sufficiently informed about the types of alternative tourism, what adversely affects the development of alternative tourism; the development of alternative tourism is a weak legal framework for the Lithuanian tourism information. Based on the analysis of scientific literature and results of the study, also the conclusions from the last part or the work, were revealed the types of alternative tourism, which may be developing in Lithuania. Information obtained about a local tourists awareness of alternative tourism and its types in Lithuania.
