Abstract [eng] Relevance of the study: due to the rapid development in the areas of economy, technology, etc; and also due to the increasing unemployment rate in the country, it is important to help young people develop their career competence, and, thus, increase their successful personal career development opportunities. In order to determine the real needs of the unemployed graduates and provide them the necessary assistance, so they could continue fostering their career competence, the existing studies are insufficient because there is a deeper need to investigate and identify the characteristics of the career competence that describe the precise target group of unemployed, and as a result, provide them relevant information and advisory services. Research object: the expression features of career competence of the unemployed vocational and high school graduates, registered with the Siauliai Labor Agency. Research hypotheses. It is highly possible that: 1) the career competence of the unemployed graduates is not sufficiently developed, 2) the expression of the career competence of the professional and high school graduates is characterized by significant differences. Purpose of the study - the analysis and comparison of separate structures in expression of the career competence obtained by the unemployed graduates with higher and vocational training. The methodology of this study is based on the theory of the career competence by Herr Cramer (by Kučinskienė, 2003), which emphasizes the need to train people to develop their career as a constantly organized and controlled process. The set and organization of the research. The study was conducted at the Šiauliai Labor Agency in December 2009 - January 2010. The study included 148 respondents, i.e. alumni of higher schools (university and non-university) (74) and graduates of vocational schools (74) of 2009 registered with the Šiauliai Labor Agency and having the status of unemployed. Thesis structure. The thesis includes: summary and its translation, introduction, 3 chapters, conclusion, recommendations, bibliography (67 sources), and 3 appendixes. Survey data is illustrated by 9 tables and 9 pictures. Conclusion: Based on literature analysis and interpretation of career competence, it was possible to develop a structured model of career competence, which includes the following components: personal, social, educational, job search, professional and career management skills. The study confirmed the research hypothesis that the career competence of the unemployed graduates is not sufficiently developed, their expression of career competence has significant differences; on this basis it is appropriate to provide information and advisory services for different groups of professional and high school graduates to develop their career competence.
