Relationships between body image, media use and physical activity, Mindaugas Ročkus, Vilnius, Vilnius university, 2022, 54p. In developed societies, the media play a special role. Recently, many values, attitudes, and examples of behavior are transmitted through the media (television, press, radio, Internet, etc.). The main goal of this work is to investigate how young adult media use is related to their body image and physical activity. A correlational study included 178 young adults (130 women and 48 men aged 18 to 35 years. The survey was conducted online by creating an online questionnaire. The study used a media use questionnaire specifically designed for this study, the Body Image Questionnaire (Banfield & McCabe, 2002) and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ short version; Lithuanian version prepared prepared by Drazdauskas and other, 2008) to measure physical activity. The study results showed that in the study sample, women think more negatively about their body image than men and are more emotionally dissatisfied with their body. Body image was found to have a positive statistically significant association with physical activity. It was also found that the frequency of young adult use of the media . Subjective characterization, subjective health characterization, and body mass index were also found to significantly predict overall body image (R²=24,9 %).
