Abstract [eng] Applying psychogeographical methodology, this paper provides an in-depth examination of the representations of urban wandering in the prose of Valdas Papievis. This study is set out to show that city strolling in Papievis’s prose presupposes a liminal state and antisystemic attitude of the protagonists. The first chapter of this paper introduces the concept of psychogeography along with its theoretical foundations and implications for contemporary research on city novels. The second and third chapters present a psychogeographical analysis of Papievis’s prose, dividing his works into 2 categories: Vilnius prose, written during the late Soviet period and the years of Sąjūdis, and Paris prose, published in recent decades after Papievis’s emigration to France. This analysis reveals the changing meanings, literary expression, and cultural motivation of urban wandering in Papievis’s works as well as literary techniques that were used for portraying these two cities.
