The object of the thesis – the mechanism of dynamics of meaning within cultural memory according to descriptions provided by Juri Lotman’s semiotics of culture. The master thesis aims to identify the causes of incongruity of cultural memory, applying the approaches and instruments of Tartu-Moscow Semiotic School. On the basis of descriptions of cultural dynamics, symbol, cultural memory in Lotman’s semiotics, the paper aims to reconstruct how Lotman’s semiotics of culture allows to discuss the dynamics of meaning within culture and its memory. The functioning of the mechanism of the dynamics of meaning is proved through analysis of a couple of examples from Lithuanian culture, illustrating the dynamics of meanings in the culture and its memory: monuments related to embedding of political discourses and discussions regarding them. |
