Abstract [eng] Matulienė A. Organisation of musical activities of pre-school children using elements of eurhythmics: master’s thesis in music / supervisor Prof. Dr. Rytis Urniežius; Vilnius University. Šiauliai Academy. – Šiauliai, 2022 – p. 49. SUMMARY The thesis explores the elements of the eurhythmic method and their application in the practice of music teachers working with pre-school children. The goal of the thesis is to identify the ways and activities in which pre-school music teachers apply the elements of eurhythmics in their musical activities. The objectives of the thesis are: to analyse the music education of pre-school children and the development of musical abilities; to identify the main features of physical activity and the need for movement in musical activities for pre-school children; to analyse the concept and methodology of eurhythmics, its application in pre-school music education and its links with other music education systems; to investigate and reveal the possibilities and methods of the eurhythmic approach applied/not applied in the work of pre-school music teachers in Lithuania. Research methods: analysis of scientific and methodological literature, analysis of documents regulating education, empirical (qualitative) research conducted using the interview method. The data were analysed by listening to the answers given by the informants in audio recordings, which were transcribed into text; the answers were grouped into categories and subcategories in tables. Research sample: Lithuanian pre-school music teachers participated in the research that was carried out in March 2022. The qualitative research (interviews) involved 8 teachers. The analysis of scientific and methodological literature as well as documents regulating education led to the following conclusions: the pioneer of pre-school music education in Lithuania is Albina Katinienė who promoted the development of children’s nationality through musical activities; however, as times change, the priorities of music education change too. Today’s pre-school child needs active music education based on movement. One of the best methods of music education that meets the psychophysical and physical needs of the pre-school child is eurhythmics (the expression of rhythm and music through movement). The findings of the qualitative research show that teachers use elements of eurhythmics most often in activities such as listening to music and rhythmic activities. In listening to music, movements are used to distinguish the dynamic aspects of the music heard, the rhythmic or tempo contrasts, as well as to keep children’s attention and meet their physical needs. In rhythmic activities, teachers use body percussion (movements of fingers, hands and legs). The complexity of movements depends on the child’s age range. .
