Abstract [eng] At the end of the 20th century sociologist Ulrich Beck argued that in the upcoming future we will live in risk society. Nowadays risk assesment and management practices are being applied in private companies, protecting public health, organising transport, aviation and other in other sectors. It would be difficult to argue that risk is not significant in a modern 21st century society. Risk assesment and management is also significant within the law enforcement agencies for instance, multiple countries by applying risk assesment tools for individuals are trying to manage these risks. Risk assesment and management practices are also being applied in counter-terrorism. This research paper will aim to unravel risk assesment and risk management policies in European Union. European Union documents analysis and interviews with experts were conducted in order to achieve set aim. Research revealed that risk assesment and management is one of the applied practices within the counter-terrorism strategies. These practices are being held as effective, however it also has some drawbacks. Risk assesment and risk manegement practices are being aimed to reduce risks, make it tougher for terrorist organisations to conduct terrorist attacks and use these practices as prevention from further terrorist attacks.
