Abstract [eng] Criminal Law Measures to Combat Terrorism in the European Union This master thesis provides analysis of the criminal law measures to combat terrorism in the European Union, examining the European Union legal acts, national legislation of the Member States, as well as documents of the European Union institutions and summaries of case law. This topic of the master’s thesis reveals one of the most serious crimes – terrorism, suspension measures provided in the context of criminal law. The analyzed topic is mostly revealed through the prism of the analysis of different European Union member states criminal law and other legal acts. The Member States of the European Union in their laws and other legal acts provides certain specificities of the criminal law measures to combat terrorism, which, depending on their applicability, could be extended to other countries. The thesis examines the concept of terrorism and its problematic, the causes of terrorism and the experience of terrorist attacks in some European Union member states, revealing the extent of the damage caused by this socially dangerous phenomenon. It also analyzes the terrorism and terrorisms – related offenses commonly required to be criminalized in the member states of European Union and limits of criminal liability for committing them. All of this are compared with the provisions of the national laws of the Republic of Lithuania and other European Union Member States that has the deepest experience of terrorist attacks, in order to determine the compliance with the requirements in the fight against terrorism. Main focus is on the laws and there provided counter – terrorism measures of the Member States of the European Union that are mostly affected by terrorism, in order to identify and discover specificities and assess their potential effectiveness in the fights against terrorism.
