Abstract [eng] Research shows that young adults’ attitude towards physical violence against peers depends on psychological factors such as self - esteem, and their lifelong values. However, in Lithuania no research was carried out, that connects the links between attitudes towards violence, self–esteem and values. This study sought to elucidate the psychological factors in young adults’ attitude toward physical violence. 103 subjects (26 men and 77 women) aged 18 to 30 years took part in the study. The questionnaire, developed by the author, and 3 instruments were used for the study: the Attitudes Towards Violence Scale (ATVS), the Rosenberg Self - Esteem Scale (RSE) and the Short Schwartz‘s Value Survey (SSVS). The results showed that respondents had a negative attitude towards physical violence. Women have a more negative attitude towards physical violence than men. Individuals who use violence, have experienced violence, or have seen someone using violence do not have different attitude towards violence. Individuals who adhere to the values of self-transcendence have a negative attitude towards violence. However, one‘s attitude towards violence does not depend on self - esteem. Also, one‘s attitude towards violence does not depend on either the value of openness to change, conservation nor self - enhancement.
