Abstract [eng] This comparative analysis of aggression in movies Point Blank (directed by John Boorman, 1967) and In a Lonely Place (directed by Nicholas Ray, 1950) is based on psychoanalytical approach. By utilizing Sigmund Freud’s theoretical premises, it was concluded, that Walker’s (who is a protagonist in Boorman’s film) destructive behaviour stems from repetition compulsion which is propelled by traumatic experiences, while Dixon Stelle’s (protagonist in Ray’s film) aggressive actions are caused by psychological projection – a defense mechanism. Based on Ericho Fromm’s classification, Walker’s destructive behaviour is categorised as benign aggression (instrumental and defensive) while Steele’s aggression is considered malignant, motivated by need for stimulation of the brain, attempts to regain unity within himself, and sexual sadism. Analysis has also uncovered another element of both narratives: the rejection of traditional (aggressive) masculinity.
