Abstract [eng] The MA thesis considers the issue of intermedial dialogue between texts of two media – literature and cinema, specifically, the ways literary text employs cinematic techniques that influence the process of its reception and meaning-making. It re-examines the discussion of literature-cinema relationship within the field of existent intermedial research, and raises the following questions: What inspires the reader to classify phenomena, texts or devices as cinematic? What are the literary ways to imitate cinematic modes of expression? How do these literary devices create cinematic effects? The theoretical and methodological background for the study is Lars Elleström’s concept of intermediality as intermodality, grounded in Peircean semiotics, and his three-layered notion of medium. The analysis focuses on the prose fiction of the modern Lithuanian writers Virginija Rimkaitė, Alvydas Šlepikas and Vidas Morkūnas. It examines the forms in which the texts reveal their cinematic traits, and the effects those traits produce.
