Abstract [eng] |
Researchers have been investigating the metacognitive skills since 1970s, but there are few studies that reveal specific practices to form these skills. Therefore, our study aimed to discover how teachers develop the metacognitive abilities of students in grades 5-8. In order to reveal the teachers' experience from their own perspective, a qualitative study was carried out, and the method used was thematic analysis. The study involved six teachers of different ages, qualification categories and teaching disciplines. The findings of the study highlighted eight areas: teacher personality, development of learning planning and self-assessment, learning support, teacher's self-reflection as well as facilitators and barriers of metacognitive abilities' building. Specifics of that process during quarantine was also addressed. The smooth development of metacognitive abilities is enabled by the teacher's personal development, sensitivity to students' individuality, proper organization of lessons, and the favorable results are evident by students' activity, successful learning, responsibility for the learning and positive learning outcomes. |
