Abstract [eng] The concept of self-expression and its meaning in the stage of preschool age is discussed in this thesis, revealing the possibilities of stimulating self-expression via musical education of preschool aged children. The goal of the Master’s Degree thesis – to reveal the possibilities of stimulating self-expression via musical education of preschool aged children. In order to achieve the goal, these tasks were set: to analyze the concept of musical education for preschool aged children, its goals and tasks; to overlook the stage of preschool age; to highlight the meaning of self-expression in the stage of preschool age; to discuss the activities of musical education, that stimulate the self-expression of preschool aged students; to examine the possibilities of stimulating self-expression via musical education of preschool aged children. The object of the research – the possibilities of stimulating self-expression via musical education of preschool aged children. The research was completed in four kindergartens in Mazeikiai, using a questionnaire. After analyzing scientific literature, educational documents and the results of the completed research, these conclusions were made: for preschool aged children musical education is an integral part of the complex educational system. The state’s education in all fields is orientated into valuable aspect – to form a versatile personality. The stage of preschool age is one the most important stages in one’s life, when the personality is being formed, that is why it is very important to ensure appropriate conditions, to educate the child in social, emotional and physical aspects. Self-expression is a one’s desire to realize themselves into who they potentially are. This need is at the highest point of the pyramid of the hierarchy of needs and it emerges when all of the lower needs are satisfied. While seeking for full-pledged benefits of musical education that is oriented to children’s self-expression, it is necessary to maintain the complexity of musical education. The factors that stimulate the student’s self-expression are: educational surroundings, the teachers of preschool education, the music teacher, the structure of the lesson organized by the music teacher and concerts, festivals, events organized by the institution or district where the children have the conditions for their self-expression.
