Abstract [eng] |
The purpose of the present study was to reveal screen time, emotional and behavioural problems and sleep in primary school children. Data for this study was used from the project „Associations of younger school-age childrenꞌs internet use with their social-emotional development and relationships with parents in Latvia, Lithuania and Taiwan: a follow-up study“ (the project manager – Prof. Dr. Roma Jusienė), funded by the Research Council of Lithuania. The participants of the study were 8–11 years old primary school children of Vilnius city (n = 307; 114 girls and 107 boys). Data for this thesis was collected with the Data questionnaire on childrenꞌs use of screen-based devices, online presence, development and social environment (parental form). The information about emotional and behavioural problems in primary school children was collected with the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire parental form. Screen time has been linked to emotional difficulties and sleep duration in primary school-age children. Longer screen and internet time is associated with higher estimates of childrenꞌs emotional distress and shorter sleep duration. |
