Abstract [eng] A narrative study of becoming a clinical psychologist and the subjective concept of competencies, Daniela Boguševič, Vilnius, Vilnius University, 2021, 82 pg. To provide effective help, clinical psychologists acquire competencies along the way of their development, which are continuously improved. The aim of this paper is to reveal the experience of becoming a clinical psychologist and the subjective conception of competencies of working clinical psychologists and students of clinical psychology bachelor and master programs. The study involved 16 participants with ages ranging from 19 to 57 years. The sample consisted of 6 working clinical psychologists, 5 psychology bachelor students, and 5 clinical psychology master students. The data for the study was collected through semi-structured biographical narrative interviews. Using Braun and Clark's (2006) thematic analysis method, four themes were identified as revealing the experience of becoming a psychologist: the decision-making process, the sources of motivation for choosing psychology as a profession, the acquisition and integration of competencies, and doubts about one's competences. Additionally, 3 themes highlighted the core competencies of a clinical psychologist: relationship-oriented competencies, self-oriented competencies, and technical competencies.
