Abstract [eng] |
Thus far, the leading theory in suicidology – Interpersonal Theory of Suicide – hasn‘t beeen used to explain the differences between male and female suicides in Lithuania. The purpose of this study is to compare the interpersonal needs and suicidality between males and females in a Lithuanian sample. There were 1776 participants in this study – adults (18-92 y.o.), who reside in Lithuania (550 males, 1226 females); data was collected physically and online. People were asked to provide their sociodemographic data, as well as complete Suicidal Ideation Attributes Scale and Interpersonal Needs Questionnaire. There were significant differences between gender – suicidal ideation is more pronounced in males than in females. The study has also shown that unmet interpersonal needs significantly predict suicidal ideation for both genders, which confirms one of the main hypotheses of the Interpersonal Theory of Suicide. |
