Abstract [eng] Work-related stress and its impact on human health have been widely emphasised in recent years. Police officers are often exposed to potentially traumatic stressors in the workplace and are therefore at high risk for developing post-traumatic stress disorder. However, psychological resilience can be a factor in alleviating stress responses. Following the Order of the Commissioner-General of Lithuania No. 5-V-534, from 30 June, 2016, there was a reorganisation of the police system in Lithuania which could have brought additional stress for the police officers. The aim of this work was to determine the stress experienced by the police officers within the workplace and the relation with psychological resilience. This study used a socio-demographic questionnaire, a resilience scale (RES), a police stress questionnaire (PSQ), and an international trauma questionnaire (ITQ). The study involved 211 police officers from different Lithuanian cities, including 112 women and 99 men, with an average age of 38 years. It has been found that police officers have been mostly exposed to stress due to the constant changes within the police/unit. The results showed that 12.6 percent of police officers develop post-traumatic stress disorder. It has been found that police officers with post-traumatic stress disorder experience higher levels of stress. Higher psychological resilience has been found to lead to lower levels of stress experienced.
