Abstract [eng] It is still not clear what kind of learning characteristics have intellectually gifted children. Previous studies shows variety needs for gifted children and their learning. This search seeks to understand what is needed for these children in learning process to reach their potential. It was made a qualitative study in order to get comprehensive data about learning characteristics. The research was made in five different Lithuanian cities, eight schools. Eight parents of intellectually gifted children (three girls and five boys) from third grade were selected out of 418 respondents. The qualitative analysis was explored using thematic analysis. Results of the study showed that learning characteristics are revealed in three areas – cognitive, problem solving and motivation. Intellectually gifted children are distinguished by overexcitabilities, good memory and perception in learning process. Gifted children are characterized by excellent skills of error analysis, planning, two types of strategies – orientation to the experience of success and orientation to the search for original solution in solving difficulties. Gifted children are highly motivated and the biggest impact on it has comfortable learning process, supportive and friendly relationship with the teacher, having personal goals, the proper working tasks and also additional responsibilities.
