The main purpose of this master thesis is to evaluate employee well-being and job satisfaction levels and determine the relationship between them. The work consists of three main parts: literature analysis, quantitative research, and data analysis. Literature review was carried out to define the concepts of employee well-being and job satisfaction, main factors which contribute to overall job satisfaction and employee well-being were also outlined. The levels of employee well-being and job satisfaction were assessed by interviewing 207 currently employed people via a structured online questionnaire and conducting a data analysis. Recommendations aimed to help employers improve the level of employee well-being and job satisfaction were later on formulated. Literature analysis revealed that employee well-being is associated with job satisfaction and correlates with health, motivation, and productivity of the employees. The results of the study showed that respondents' life well-being and workplace well-being were evaluated as a medium level, while the level of psychological well-being was slightly higher than average. The overall level of employee well-being in the sample was moderate. A statistically significant difference was found when comparing the answers provided by employees in different occupational positions: the level of workplace, psychological and general employee well-being is higher among higher-ranking employees. The level of job satisfaction among respondents was average. It was also determined that a minor statistically significant difference regarding the level of job satisfaction between men and women exists – women tend to be satisfied with their job more often. According to obtained data, respondents in higher occupational positions (business owners, top managers) have higher job satisfaction ratings compared to employees in lower-ranking positions. The correlation analysis revealed a strong statistically significant relationship between employee well-being and workplace well-being. Employee well-being also strongly correlates with life and psychological well-being. A positive significant relationship between job satisfaction level and all analysed components of employee well-being as well as the overall employee well-being was also established. Various demographic characteristics (gender, age, work position, etc.) were taken into consideration when analysing the results – position in the organization was found to be an important factor influencing job satisfaction and employee well-being (the relationship is weak but statistically significant). Linear regression analysis revealed that workplace well-being and psychological well-being have the greatest impact on job satisfaction levels. Literature review findings as well as the results of the conducted research suggest that employers should pay special attention to promotion of community spirit in the work environment and ensure optimal level of employee autonomy, appropriate working conditions and professional development opportunities. The study recommends to carry out employee surveys, since they provide insights regarding employees' attitudes towards work, reflect their emotional state and show, which work-related factors motivate them to work and which, on the contrary, cause anxiety and dissatisfaction. Once familiar with the situation, employers should develop and implement an individualized strategy for increasing employee well-being and job satisfaction. Key Words: employee well-being; life well-being; workplace well-being; psychological well-being, job satisfaction. |
