Abstract [eng] |
"Mythical Normativity in Contemporary Stories of Pregnancy" The primary goal of graduation thesis “Mythical Normativity in Contemporary Pregnancy Stories“ is to analyze the forms of mythical normativity and trajectories of mythical thinking in experiential discourse of a pregnant woman. The main objective of this analysis is an extensive ethnographic field research conducted over the course of two years and which main goal was to collect various beliefs, related to pregnancy in Lithuanian tradition. Based on analysis of previous ethnographic sources and the structuralist theory of mythology, these beliefs are analyzed as forms of mythical normativity as well as cases of semiotic manipulation. The focus of this analysis is to determine what are the assumptions and circumstances of successful semiotic manipulation in various beliefs, related to pregnancy and also, what mythological context underlies these beliefs. In the experience of a pregnant woman, these beliefs, as forms of mythical normativity, lead to a range of reactions, which manifest as different action strategies towards the manipulation and can be registered in the discourse by the means of semiotic inventory. |
