Cultural tourism based on use of cultural heritage is becoming a very important and one of the most rapidly growing businesses in the world. Lithuania’s accession to cultural development programs of European countries and joining other political and economic structures of European countries encourages the immediate development of cultural tourism in Lithuania. Therefore, cultural tourism, the basis of functioning thereof consists of the resources of culture and the activities of which are directly related to propagation, preservation and cultural use of resources, is becoming a more relevant problem. Tourism development is a very good means in order to help saving and often even restoring decadent cultural values by applying them for public needs. However, the potential of tourism in Lithuania, numerous natural and cultural tourism resources are still not used properly. Research aim: to reveal the aspects of development process of cultural tourism (peculiarities, possibilities for development, problems), taking into account the current situation of manors included in the program of Millennium of Lithuania. As a result of the causes established during the research (inadequate legislative framework, insufficient financing, lack of cooperation, attitude of manor managers towards the development of cultural tourism as educational activities and not as a perspective business sphere etc.), sufficient conditions for development of cultural tourism allowing to preserve and often even to restore decadent cultural values by applying them for public needs are not established. As a consequence, an “Optimum Way” model for solving the problems of the development of cultural tourism was formed. Pursuant to conclusions of the research, recommendations, that might be significant and useful for development of cultural tourism and solving development problems in all Lithuanian manors as well as museums in as maximum manner as possible, have been provided. |
