Abstract [eng] Career choice is a very important issue. Many problems appear when one is choosing the profession. Profession choice is dependent upon external and internal career factors that determine the future of the career. Object of the Survey – career selection factors of gymnasium students from 3rd – 4th grades. Aim of the Survey – to define main career choice factors and to perform comparative analysis of career choice factors on the aspect of gender. Methodology of the Survey: scientific literature analysis; questionnaire; qualitative and quantitative survey data analysis; “SPSS 11.0” for “Windows” and “MS Excel” were used for data processing Scope of the Survey: 201 gymnasium students from 3rd – 4th grades. Conclusions: the survey indicated that career choice factors of gymnasium students from 3rd – 4th grades are influenced by internal and external factors, such as some appropriate values, possibilities, motives, career selection objectives. In order to attain the aim, the main objective is realization of the dream by participating in various extracurricular activities; by selecting the course of learning in gymnasium; by being interested in professions of parents (father and mother); by planning and implementing the career. Results of the survey revealed that career choice factors for male and female participants were mainly influenced by career planning since childhood until studying the chosen specialty and working in the desired position. The survey indicated that female participants try to fulfill their dreams by participating in various extracurricular activities more often than male participants. Moreover, it was defined that male participants are more interested in professions of parents than female participants do, and males know more about professions of their fathers while females – professions of their mothers. J. L. Holland states that males with the type of interests have the real type, meanwhile females – objective and artistic types. It was defined that career choice factors are influenced by the wish to work and study. Furthermore, religion is important in females’, as well as in males’, profession choice. Male and female participants indicated that the profession must be interesting, profitable, promising, and marketable in working and creating as well as in cooperating. The profession prestige and profession cognition can be identified as career choice factors. Analysis of results revealed that career choice factors differ on the aspect of gender, i.e. male and female participants participate in activities of informal education in different way; they have different professional dreams, types of interests and seek for different education, orient themselves towards studies of different cycles and etc. Comparatively smaller differences appear in career choice motives and values. The performed survey confirmed the hypothesis that career choice factors of male and female participants are different.
