Research topicality. Till now various authors tried to give a glance at the process of profession choice differently, but neither of them analyzed how the family, as the essential factor of professional career choice, influences young people while choosing the future profession. Research subject – factors, which arise from the family, and influence the process of pupils’ choice of professional career. Research purpose – to analyse factors of family, which influence self-determination of pupils regarding professional career. Research methodology: Master’s thesis is based on the theories of social sphere, social construction, sociocultural constructivism, cognitive constructivism. It is also based on the theory of E. Ginzberg regarding the choice of profession, the theory of D. E. Super regarding professional development, the theory of A. Roe regarding development of personality and choice of profession. Research methods: 1. Analysis of scientific educational, pedagogical, psychological literature. 2. A structured quantitative research (questionnaire survey). Description and assessment of research results. 3. Statistical analysis of data (results are processed with computer programs of Excel and SPSS). Research sample and organization: the research was done in January-February, 2013. Pupils of 11-12 forms of Zemaites gymnasium in Telsiai, Dziugas gymnasium in Telsiai and Luoke secondary school in Telsiai district and their parents participated in the research. 200 pupils and 100 parents participated in the survey. It turned out after the research, that understanding of parents and pupils about professional career is similar, therefore the conclusion can be made, that parents make the essential influence to the pupils while forming understanding about professional career. Those young people, whose parents take an interest, help, advise while choosing a profession, become more active themselves, choose professional way in more purposeful and courageous way. It is established, that good work conditions, well-paid job, where agreement with colleagues and employer would exist, are the most important factors for the parents and pupils while choosing future profession. The majority of parents are certain, that children themselves must decide regarding the future profession, therefore they advise children to choose what they like. It is known, that parents find more drawbacks than benefits in their profession, therefore they wouldn’t want the children to follow their professional way. It is determined during the research that parents are not interested, do not communicate and receive enough information from social worker, psychologist, career consultant and other persons of pupil’s school, who are responsible for professional information and consultation of pupils. Pupils and parents feels that they receive enough information about admission to educational institution and studies programs, but they do not have exact knowledge what to expect after completion of studies (what amount of salary will be, whether an attempt to employ will be successful). |
