Today`s business environment is changing tremendously, so one of the most popular research object in the organizational success field become effective leadership and several components of it. Various studies confirmed, that effective leaders were identified as those, who reported transformational behaviours and demonstrated the abilities to understand, use and manage self and others emotions. Emotional intelligence is a term that refers to a field of theories relating to the understanding and use of emotions. Debate currently rages as to what, exactly, emotional intelligence is. There are two widely recognized schools of thought at present. But no matter wich model is considered, there are clear theoretical ties between emotional intelligence and leadership. So emotional intelligence has become increasingly popular as a measure for identifying potentially efective leaders, and as a tool for developing effective leadership skills. The aim of the present paper was to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership. Several tasks was set to highlight these correlations. First, emotional intelligence and leadership concepts was defined and mostly usable models considered. Then several theoretical and practical corellations was found between emotional intelligence and transformational leadership. Emotional intelligence and its components, especially empathy and charisma, has significant correlation with transformational leadership and several components of it. In particular, the transformational model of leadership, with its branches of charismatic leadreship skills, idealized influence, insipirational motivation, individualized consideration and constructive communication holds the potential for significant relationships with emotional intelligence. The present case study was examined and empirically tested those ties in the UAB „DS Distribution“ environment. Investigation holds questionnaire and sociometry models. Emotional intelligence was assessed by a modified N.S.Shutte SSRI model and leadership styles was measured by the modified B.M.Bass and B.J.Avolio MLQ model. Individuals knowledge and abilities to demonstrate emotional intelligence and transformational leadership behavior in social environment was verified by the sociometry questionnaire. The investigation proved almost all hypotesis, that emotional intelligence and its components has significant relationship with several components of transformational leadership. Only empathy has no significant correlations with idealized influence. |
