Master thesis deals with the district municipality cooperation with private companies in Mažeikiai region. Lithuania, as well as many countries of the world, faces the growing demand for investments for public infrastructure and development of public services and their quality improvement. Limited possibilities of public sector to devote sufficient funding for this purpose encourages the search for new tools and capabilities. In international practice, one of the measures intended to encourage private investments for the satisfaction of public needs is the collaboration between public and private sector collaboration. Mažeikiai district in this case is no exception - it is also an important for municipality to cooperate with the private sector. The paper seeks to analyse the collaboration between Mažeikiai region municipality and private business, to prepare assumptions for the development between Mažeikiai region municipality and private business. This objective was fulfilled by the following tasks: to analyse the concept and types of collaboration between municipality and private sector; to analyse the situation of collaboration between Mažeikiai region municipality and private sector; evaluate the business approach to business cooperation with the municipality; to assess the position of local authorities in cooperation with the private business; to formulate recommendations for the development of cooperation between Mazeikiai region municipality and business. The questionnaire survey evaluates approach of 124 managers of business companies in Mažeikiai region. Survey results have shown that employees of municipality rarely initiate collaboration with business. It means that the lack of initiatives from municipality limit the collaboration between business and municipality. Results of the interview with representatives of municipality showed that collaboration between Mažeikiai region municipality and business happen in a fairly small variety of forms: public procurement, open discussions, decision planning and projects. |
