THE RESEARCH OF CHILDREN LABOUR DEMAND IN THE SCHOOLS OF LAZDIJAI DISTRICT Simona GUDŽIAUSKAITĖ Paper for Master's degree Vilnius University, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health institute Supervisor – doc. G. Šurkienė Vilnius, 2009 m. SUMMARY The master thesis consists of 74 pages, which comprise 33 tables, 38 pictures, 27 reference sources and 1 annex. The topic is relevant, since children, the most vulnerable part of the society, are analysed. The work of children may be particularly dangerous to the children’s health: it depends on the nature of the working conditions and the child’s health condition. Information on the demand for the work of children has not been available so far, i.e. it is not clear how many children are willing to work and when they would like to work. The thesis aims at analysing the demand for work of children aged 13-18 years learning at schools of Lazdijai City and Lazdijai District. The following objectives have been raised for accomplishing the determined aim of the thesis: 4. To establish the prevalence of work of children in Lazdijai City and Lazdijai District; 5. To analyse the nature of work of children and reasons for work; 6. To examine the demand for work of children of Lazdijai City and Lazdijai District. An anonymous questionnaire consisting of 38 questions has been used to carrying out the survey. 781 children were questioned. The statistical analysis of the research data has been carried out using the program SPSS 12.0 for Windows. The following results were obtained upon the performance of the analysis:  the children willingly work, half of the questioned children affirmed that they worked for a certain remuneration;  the questioned children do works that are suitable for their age. The main reasons for work are their willingness to have own money and the willingness to gain experience.  72 percent of the questioned children expressed their willingness to work, including approximately 94 percent of children who would like to work during their summer holidays. The conclusion is as follows: the demand for work of the children is rather great. |
